Our Aircraft

Safety and reliability are important when considering an aircraft needed to handle the tough Kodiak environment, and that is why we chose to operate 2000 Found Bush Hawk, 2004 & 2005 Found Bush Hawk XP and a refurbished 1952 DeHavilland Beaver. Our aircraft are operated and maintained at or above air taxi FAR 135 standards.

Each aircraft features clean, comfortable interior with noise cancelling headphones and bottled water for the passengers on our tours. All charters are point-to-point and originate from Kodiak, unless otherwise pre-arranged.

Bush Hawk XP

Found Aircraft Canada FBA-2C1

What is a Bush Hawk? That is a common question that we are faced with on a daily basis, which we are more than happy to answer. It is a 5 place (pilot plus 4) aircraft that was built in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada from 1999 until about 2007. Only about 35 -XP aircraft were constructed during Found Aircraft Canada's tenure.

The Bush Hawk was designed to be a 'mini' beaver -- meet the needs of the Alaska operator looking for a utility aicraft. We figure our payloads to be 800 pounds -- with extended range operations and that is slightly more than the Cessna 206 or Cessna 185 aircraft that operate around Kodiak. It has the same cabin size as a Cessna 206, but we can legally carry more weight, load and unload from either side of the plane, and performs better at gross weights.

Our Bush Hawks were built new in 2000, 2004 and 2005. They feature a 300 horsepower Lycoming IO-540 engine, 84" Hartzell Roundtip Propellor, Aerocet Fiberglass/Composite Floats and 4 large easy entry doors with large bubble windows. It has a cantilever wing (no wing strut to impede movement on the float!) and a steel tube cage around the passenger compartment, which is skinned in aluminum. The Bush Hawk cruises at approximately 115 knots on floats.

Beaver

DeHavilland Aircraft Canada DHC-2

Beavers need no introduction.  They are the quintessential bush plane in Alaska and Canada that have been in reliable service since the 1940's. It is a 7 place (pilot plus 6) aircraft that was built in Canada from 1947 until 1967. 1657 beavers were constructed.

This is a utility aicraft. We figure our payloads to be 1200 pounds and the aircraft features five window seats for flight-seeing operations.

Our Beaver was built new in 1952, but recently refurbished in 2015. It features a 450 horsepower Pratt & Whitney R-985 engine, 96" Hartzell Propellor, Edo 4930 floats and 4 entry doors. The 48' wingspan provides the ultimate in STOL capabilites, and the beaver cruises at approximately 105 knots on floats.
